THE EASTERN RIGHT HAND
European gypsies carry on the fantastically powerful eastern right hand tradition in guitar playing.
Here is an example of the Manouche picking technique, by the legendary french Manouche guitarist Moreno Winterstein which is the same right hand as the Oud players and Sarod players of centuries past and to this day as well.
Note the completely free arm, with no touching at the bridge. Of course gypsy jazz Manouche players don't' have to mute strings with the western hand position used for electric distortion, Al Di Meola style or as Allan Holdsworth or as used by any great rock player like Eric Clapton or Steve Vai.
Jimi Hendrix used the Manouche hand as well on electric , mixed with the western muting hand as evidenced by the Live at Woodstock DVD.
